The USA ranks second in the list of countries importing food from Turkey. Thanks to the TURQUALITY project carried out to promote Turkish food products in the USA and the fairs attended in the USA, from Fancy Food Fair in New York to Winter Fancy Food Fair in Las Vegas, food exports from Turkey to the USA have been continuing to increase. As of January 2022, the food exports from Turkey to the United States have increased by 76% from 68 million dollars to 120 million dollars, exceeding $1 billion for the first time. Meanwhile, the world's food demand from Turkey increased by 35 percent from 810 million dollars to 1 billion 94 million dollars in 2021.
While the USA demanded hundreds of food products from Turkey in 2021, gummy candies were at the top with an amount of 120 million dollars. While apple juice exports brought Turkey 80 million dollars, corn kernels reached an export figure of 79 million dollars. Dried apricots, dried figs, olive oil, sea bass, vegetable oils, fruit and vegetable products, and spices were other prominent food products in exports to the USA. Small packaged natural and organic products were in high demand as well.
Turkey's Aegean Exporters' Associations, which has been carrying out the TURQUALITY project for three years to ensure that Turkish flavors are consumed more in the world, announced the data. Birol Celep, vice president of Turkish Aegean Exporters' Associations, announced that they see a potential that will double Turkey's position in the US market and increase food exports to 2 billion dollars.
