Turkey Exported 136.1 Million Dollars of Hazelnut

According to TUIK Crop Production Statistics, Turkey produced 684 thousand tons of hazelnuts in 2021. With this amount of production, it ranks first among the countries that produce and export the most hazelnuts in the world.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly, hazelnut exports in Turkey increased by 16.6% in 2021 compared to the previous period. In addition, Turkey exported 344 thousand 370 tons of hazelnuts to 122 countries in 2021. From this export, Turkey gained 2 billion 260 million 105 thousand 304 dollars in foreign exchange income. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced the 2022 hazelnut harvest as 765 thousand 287 tons.

Turkey Exported Hazelnuts to 123 Countries

According to the data shared by the Eastern Black Sea Exporters' Association (DKİB), hazelnuts were exported from Turkey to 123 countries in the 9-month period between September 2021- May 2022. In the 9-month period, Turkey realized 287 thousand 934 tons of exports. In addition, Turkey earned 1 billion 700 million 495 thousand 560 dollars from this export.

Significant Success in the Opening of the 2022-2023 Agriculture Season

A significant success was achieved in hazelnut export in the 2022-2023 agricultural season. According to the data shared by the  Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters' Association, 25 thousand 127 tons of hazelnuts were exported in September 2022, which is the first of the 2022-2023 season. Turkey earned 136 million 147 thousand 595 dollars from this export.

The Most Demand for Turkish Hazelnut Comes from EU Countries

In 2021, the countries to which Turkey exports the most in the hazelnut and products sector were EU countries. The countries with the highest exports are Germany, Italy, France, Poland, and the Netherlands, respectively.

In the 2021 period, 536.4 million dollars worth of hazelnuts were exported to Germany from Turkey, while 497.7 million dollars of hazelnuts were exported to Italy from Turkey. In addition, Turkey exported 163.1 million dollars worth of hazelnuts to France and 106.3 million dollars to Poland. Finally, Turkey exported  84.1 million dollars of hazelnuts to the Netherlands.

Turkey realized hazelnut exports in 2021 to countries that it did not export hazelnuts in the previous period. These countries include Djibouti, Brunei, Benin, and Sierra Leone.

Significant Increase in Exports to Germany

The hazelnut and hazelnut products sector made the highest increase in exports on a quantity basis to Germany in 2021. Hazelnut exports increased by 98.9 million dollars in 2021 compared to the previous period. In addition, exports from Turkey to Italy increased by 92.8 million dollars and exports to France increased by 26.8 million dollars. Finally, hazelnut exports from Turkey to China increased by 26.5 million dollars.
